Next is the third movie in about six months that deals with seeing the future. I wonder if one studio got a movie about the future and then the other two copied it, or if it's just coincidence...?
No matter how we got 3 future movies in six months, this is the one to see.
It is action packed, fast moving, and very engaging. The movie flew by. I liked the general plot. Instead of being all knowing, he could only see two minutes into his own future. It was fun and interesting to see him use his gift (except one time near the end, they exaggerated it a little too much).
Jessica Biel was beautiful, especially for a couple of minutes when she is only wearing a towel after taking a shower. Straight men and lesbians will definitely be taking that image home in their minds.
The ending is the only thing I was not happy with. Click the "extended review" button above for more details and spoilers.
In Next, Cris Johnson a.k.a. Frank Cadillac (Cage) is a third class magic act in Las Vegas. The difference between him and other magicians is he is not doing an act, he can see the future.
He can only see two minutes into his own future, but he takes full advantage of it by doing magic and gambling. He also steels the occasional car and out runs the cops using his talent.
The one time he has seen more than two minutes is his meeting a beautiful women (Biel). Like most men have done sometime in their life, since he has seen her at a specific place at a specific time, he go;s back again and again until he meets her. Of course he wants to pursue a romantic relationship with her, but his main reason for this is to find out why he was able to see her more than 2 minutes ahead.
During his personal pursuits, he gets the attention of the FBI, who want him to help them stop a terrorist attack. He also is wanted by the terrorists - dead!
It turns out that with Liz (Biel), he can see further into the future. And with both the FBI and terrorists chasing them, Cris ends up helping the FBI to save Liz.
